DMSA

DMSA (meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid) is a chelating agent used as the precursor for [99mTc]DMSA, forming a stable complex via its sulfhydryl groups with technetium-99m under controlled pH conditions. This trivalent [99mTc(III)]DMSA complex binds selectively to the renal cortex, enabling high-resolution SPECT imaging to assess kidney function, detect cortical defects, scarring, or infections.
